A Weekend Trip To Guaymas Mexico

A small city in Mexico known for a neighborhood escape

A Small Town Neighborhood With A Stroll Of The Water Port

During my limited free time for travel, I have been searching for unique places to road trip to from my current location. While exploring on Google Maps, I stumbled upon a hidden gem in Guaymas, Mexico called "El Arco" ("The Arch" in Spanish). The place seemed like such a beautiful and secluded spot with its stunning waterfront scenery, and I knew I had to make plans to see it for myself.

Guaymas Tourist Lettering in the Centro

As someone with Mexican heritage, it was refreshing to explore a part of Mexico that I hadn't visited before. It allowed me to expand my horizons and discover underrated spots. During my time in Guaymas, the traffic was pleasantly light, especially during the weekends.

As I made my way to "El Arco," I passed several industrial fishing centers. I noticed a faint fish smell as I drove across from the corner of the mountain to reach "El Arco," but it wasn't overpowering.

A drive-by view by Parque Industrial Pesquero

After passing the industrial centers, I encountered a road closure where the road turned into a dirt trail. The trail was linear and bumpy to drive through, but fortunately, it was only a short portion. The rest of the way required a light 10-minute walk to reach the landmark. Interestingly, the view of "El Arco" isn't immediately visible as you approach it, but rather as you pass it, as if you were going back on the trail. I had to ask a local for directions, and he informed me that the view isn't visible when you're heading towards it. Armed with this advice, I made the light hike to the top of the mountain.

The view of “El Arco”

The view of "El Arco" was a hidden gem with its own unique story. Being situated away from the city, it felt like a special find. I was so happy to witness this spot with my own eyes. The local was right; at first, I was a little lost in finding the perspective to see this view, but as you come closer, you are rewarded with a glimpse of Guaymas' arch. Here's a fun fact: there is a small gap in the bridge that leads to the end of the arch, something that other sites haven't mentioned. It's important to watch your step as you walk, especially if you have small children who need extra caution. I have included a picture of the hole below.

The takeaway from this trip is that every corner of a city or country may hold special places, whether they are well-known or not. It's worth making plans to visit these hidden spots and exploring beyond the usual tourist attractions. I hope you enjoyed reading about my experience. As I continue to work towards being able to travel more in the future, I look forward to sharing more adventures with you.

Victor’s Food Recommendation

A inside look from Tacos Luis el Ñar Guaymas

During my stay, I made a visit to this busy taco shop called “Tacos Luis”. This place is located in the city’s main downtown (Centro). I would give it a great recommendation as they did have various types of tacos and other condiments. You can find more information about them on their Facebook page here.
