"Monument Valley: A Land of Contrast and Adventure"

The things I did and places to check out during a stay at Monument Valley

Hitting the road by yourself is an amazing accomplishment. There comes a natural mindset where you are in charge to see the places you want to see, stop and ask the people around you for tips and surprising conversations. The majority of the people I run into get very surprised that I travel solo. In fact, in the state of my life I take good pride in it. It feels quite nice to me.

I am currently putting into action into exploring my home state (and hope to travel overseas next year). The place that I’m highlighting in this post is “Monument Valley” AZ. This area has a strong Navajo culture. As I had to stop by a gas station around the area, I’ve noticed the amount of Navajo native Americans were quite present as I drove around the area.

The best easy tips I can share as a must for a prepared solo trip is to ensure to have a first-aid kit. May never know when it may be needed. For entertainment, a must have to ensure you have music downloaded on your phone, make a playlist for you to sing karaoke. A personal thing for me is download about five episodes of your favorite of your choice. Most of the pods I listen to range from about an hour so it’s enough for a solid five hour trip.

The hotel I stopped by was at the “The View Hotel” They do have a toll booth which costs $8 to enter. As you arrive you are surrounded by a culture of Indian culture. From the Navajo culture, the friendly staff were there to accommodate all my needs. At the hotel you do have the option to either stay at the hotels or to stay at their unique private cabins.

During my stay I checked out “The Trading Post” at the hotel. They had a collection of many traditional Navajo jewelry, artwork and rugs and collectible rocks and many more other pieces. The great part of all these items is that each item is locally crafted and made under a certificate of quality.

My best take away from this trip as an Arizona Native is that there is just so much unheard of culture that isn’t as covered or as popular to advertise compared to other places in Arizona. But the area does have a vast amount of places to stay whether you are staying in a hotel or a cabin or other places within the area. It is “a view” to experience in Monument Valley, Arizona.
